Don't Worry, Beer Happy

“Irish today, hungover tomorrow”

St. Patrick’s Day 2023 was another one for the books with MWD! This year’s crew came together in Lake Tahoe to paint the town green while getting shamrocked. See what I did there?

2022-2023’s record breaking snowfall came back to challenge another MWD trip, but yet again we prevailed. Lake Tahoe was making national news the weeks leading up to departure as pictures went viral of homes completely buried and resort lift chairs almost touching the snow mid-line. Two days prior to departure we received notice that our villa reservation was being cancelled due to the devastating snow and rain that had been hammering the town.

We knew Heavenly had closed their resort over the previous weekend, but after making numerous phone calls and speaking with friends who had recently visited Tahoe themselves, we knew the resorts were back up and running and the town was operating as planned. The luck of the Irish was on our side, because after speaking with all guests and confirming everyone wanted to party in Tahoe no matter what, we secured last-minute accommodations! Take that mother nature. We will, we will, SHAMrock you!

We started our first full day skiing Heavenly under beautiful clear blue skies with temperatures warm enough to unzip our jackets and show off our green beads and Irish sweaters. We quickly cleaned up and headed out to a local Irish pub to down a round of car bombs and indulge in some bangers & mash and shepherd’s pie. Let me just say, beer was flowing on this trip! From the Guinness at the pub to our frequently restocked fridge full of house beers, I can comfortably say I reconnected with my college self. Our second morning was off to a slower start, he-hem alcohol, but we eventually found ourselves back on the mountain for another full day of skiing in even warmer temps and bluer skies. Our second evening was spent hopping around town on a brewery tour (I know; shocking; more beer!) where we wrapped up the night around a big fire listening to live music and petting dogs.

On our final day we started the morning with a strenuous, but oh-so-amazing, snowshoe hike up a mountain in a beautiful light snowstorm with Tahoe Outdoor Adventures. We might have complained a bit on the uphill, but wow were the views worth it once we got to the summit… and even better… we got to body slide back down! And to top it all off, our tour was led by an adorable golden retriever puppy, Roxie, who led the way and kept us motivated with her non-stop puppy energy!

St. Patrick’s Day 2023 did not disappoint. Despite a few last minute hurdles, our MWD adventure came together with a great group of people who made the most of a long weekend celebrating with endless beer, games, and outdoor adventure.
